Academic Competition

Academic Decathlon

An intense team competition in mathematics, science, economics, fine arts, language and literature, social science, and music appreciation among high school students.  In addition, contestants are judged on impromptu speech, written essay, personal interview, and the Super Quiz event. Team members must consist of all ranges of GPA averages (A, B, and C). Ferrahian students have participated in the Southern California Private Schools’ Academic Decathlon since 1996 and have received medals of excellence.

Model United Nations

The Model UN allows student participants to exercise their discussion, critical thinking, research, and public speaking skills. Students attend university-based conferences that simulate United Nations operations.  Ferrahian students have participated in the Model UN-UCLA and Model UN-Berkeley programs since September 1999.

Science Bowl

The

School Science Fair and County Science Fair

In partnership with Boeing Rocketdyne Company, the Science Department organizes a yearly school-wide Science Fair that allows students to display their scientific projects. A panel of judges evaluates the projects and announces the winners.  The winners of the School Science Fair qualify to participate in the County Science Fair.

California Scholarship Federation

C.S.F. is a statewide organization, which recognizes students with a record of high academic achievement.  Interested and qualified students must apply for membership every semester.  To qualify, students must excel in core subjects.  Consecutive semesters of membership in C.S.F. can lead a student to attain C.S.F. Life Member status, a merit usually stated on the student's high school transcript of records.  Distinction in C.S.F. also provides students with increased qualifications for outside scholarship programs.

Other Academic Competitions

The school also participates in community and in-school contests, including quiz bowl, spelling bee, speech debate, recitation, etc.
